London Ambassadors volunteered for The Queen’s visit to Richmond Park. This was used as a rehearsal for our roles during the forthcoming games in London.

The Queen, accompanied by HRH The Duke of Edinburgh, visited Richmond Park on 15 May as part of the Diamond Jubilee tour of the UK. This was Her Majesty's first official visit to the borough in 23 years.

The London Ambassadors were invited to be part of the volunteering group. A total of 85 Ambassadors braved the rain and hail storms to put our training to test. We helped by being a friendly and helpful source of information for the visitors attending the festival. We also gave people directions and assisted those lining the streets to see The Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh arrive.

The Royal Couple were shown hands-on exhibits, cookery and sporting demonstrations, public displays and dance and music performances from environmental organisations, community groups and schools around the borough. There was also a specially commissioned performance from the Royal Ballet School – who are based in Richmond Park.

All in all, despite the weather, this proved to be a very enjoyable day.
