Implementing a CMS was a major culture change for the Met Office

CMS Digital Project Manager

I managed two parallel projects in implementing the GOSS CMS to the Met Office research website and a mobile enabled weather website within seven months of starting the projects.

This role required lateral thinking mixed with a tenacious “can do” mentality, balanced with the sensitivity of implementing a huge culture change programme. The key elements of my projects were:

  • Engaging stakeholders at all levels at the project planning through to implementation stage by demonstrating business case, employee and customer benefits
  • Providing leadership in directing the change programme in a co-ordinated way
  • Responsible for defining and planning business priorities and requirements
  • Managing a number of key third party partners and relationships including WebTrends, Sitemorse and Webcredible
  • Developing wireframes of a refreshed design and validating its usability with external research
  • Taking ownership of detailed and complex functional and technical specifications of the CMS

  • Working with senior content owners, agreeing the customer journey and information architecture
  • Analysing issues in a creative, systematic and pragmatic way and able to provide recommendations and make decisions on behalf of the customer and business
  • Worked closely with technical teams both within the Met Office and external suppliers
  • Adhered to strict release management, operational acceptance and IT security procedures to ensure timely release of websites
  • Integral part of a core team that laid the road map for the migration of the remaining content using the CMS
  • Implemented a taxonomy process for the Research area of the website
  • Trained editors in the new CMS as well as organising web writing training
  • Developed a governance framework to ensure compliance to agreed standards
