Planning and sustaining a streamlined strategy for websites

Many organisations are now exploring the possibility of managing their content with a single view, through ECM. The task itself is an overwhelming one which companies are now starting to address.

The end of the last decade saw an unprecedented and uncontrolled rise in the volume of content within organisations. The organic growth of this content led to several different repositories, strategies and policies being in operation. The cost of keeping these in full working order, not to mention the amount of content creators, editors and training support required to do so has led to a chaotic state of affairs. Added to the increasing need to create and provide even more content even more efficiently to customers, suppliers, staff and stakeholders, it is no wonder that most businesses are crying out for a unified approach to their content management which is capable of functioning across the whole enterprise.

This was my second conference that I was invited to Chair. The conference discussed enterprise-wide CMS. It demonstrated a comprehensive view of the various checkpoints enabling companies to improve the way their whole organisation manages information. Issues discussed were:

As a Chairperson, I had to summarise at the end of each presentation and manage the discussions that followed. Summarising is a key skill in communication.
